Human rights is often defined as Universal rights to which every person is entitled because they are justified by a moral standard. We (U.S.A.) often associate other countries with devoiding their "people" of these "God" given rights, when the Unites States too is just at fault.
We have millions of people here in the States that live in severe poverty. Millions of children that live in foster homes, orphanages and group homes. Many families that go without food, heat, hot water and even shelter. These are families that work for a living and can't survive. Babies that have been a result of addiction and loss. Is this fair? We like to be ignorant to these facts. We have a tendency to believe that the U.S. takes care of their own, when in reality, they really don't. The funding for these babies/kids with no families often come from non profit organizations and that barely scrapes by. Can you imagine, never owning a new pair of shoes? A bike? An outfit that has never been "handed down". To most of us, this stuff is very basic. To these kids, they're a dream.
How do I know all of this? Well, because this is how I grew up. Yes, group homes DO exist. Yes, orphanages DO exist.
You always hear about these "oh, so wonderful" actress' and actors adopting kids from other countries "to help poverty stricken kids" when we have millions here in the U.S.A. Maybe "our" babies aren't so nostalgic.
I believe that the U.S. likes to turn face sometimes and appear the hero to other countries.
We need to take care of our own too.
Here's how.
